Charles III, born on November 14, 1948, at Buckingham Palace in London, England, ascended as the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on September 8, 2022. The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, he became the monarch following the passing of his mother in September 2022. Having been the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, Charles III began his reign at the age of 73. His coronation, the first in almost seventy years, took place on May 6, 2023.

Charles III received private education at Buckingham Palace and in locations across London, Hampshire, and Scotland. He then enrolled at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1967, where he achieved a bachelor’s degree in 1971. This accomplishment marked the first time an heir to the British crown earned such a degree. Additionally, he spent a term at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth, learning Welsh to prepare for his investiture as the Prince of Wales on July 1, 1969, at Caernarvon Castle. Following this, Charles attended the Royal Air Force College, where he became an adept flier, and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. From 1971 to 1976, he served with the Royal Navy. Beyond his military career, Charles became a vocal critic of modern architecture, sharing his perspectives in his 1989 book, ‘A Vision of Britain.’ In 1992, he founded the Prince of Wales’s Institute of Architecture, which later evolved into the BRE Trust, a body engaged in urban regeneration and development initiatives.
